This release follows four years of independent work starting in December 1994 to enhance a codebase - which I had developed as an employee of Cornell University and which was originally distributed as COMET, the Cornell Macintosh Terminal Emulator - through further development by DATABEAST INC as the dataComet terminal emulator under an exclusive license arrangement with the Cornell Research Foundation, with me representing DATABEAST INC as Founder and President.

Wow. I just gave dataComet a once-over and am HIGHLY impressed.
Plan on me registering it shortly. I just stripped NiftyTelnet and tn3270
of their "essential" badges and awarded dataComet the sole badge on the
Terminal applications page.
I also modified wording on many of the other entries.
Great job - what a major upgrade this is. Congratulations. Feel
free to use the "Essential" icon on your home page.

Most shareware is not worth paying for. You either don't use it enough
to justify paying for it, or it's simply not worth the asking price.
Since I downloaded dataComet, I've been able to quit rolling over to
my Sun everytime I need to do some sysadmin stuff… I use
it all day, every day. Ergo, you have your shareware payment.

Very slick registration - and an excellent product BTW. We have tried 6
or 7 telnet 3270 apps on Macs and PCs. This is the best we have seen.
Is it only available on Macs?

I've been using the latest version of datacomet for several weeks now, &
I love it. This thing is so stable, so fast, so logical… one
of the best s/w I've gotten (& registered.)
In fact it's so nice that it's painful to use other telnet applications
(except for Linux & gnome-terminal combo…) I want to let you know
that I thank you for your excellent work!

Subject: Databeast - great, and… question
I am now a proudly-registered user of your best-ever DataComet term
emulator/telnet client. I looked around your web site, including the
"planned features" section (which looks as though it hasn't been updated
in awhile.): is there any chance you'd consider adding SSH capability to
DataComet? I'd even be willing to double my $10 educational licensing fee
for a client with a solid SSH implementation.
One other note - as I said, I think DataComet is a stunning
tour-de-force of massive terminal emulating power, flexibility, speed -
but… It could use an interface overhaul, no? Perhaps to
spruce up the menus and dialogs, Platinum-ize things, and so on. That'd
be the finishing touch on an already-great program. What's your stance on
that issue?

Subject: Carbon dataComet? [OS X upgrade path!]
Late last year I went looking for Mac OS X -compatible telnet programs,
and a search engine brought me back to dataComet. Lo and behold, you'd
added sco-ansi emulation: it's streets ahead of multiterm, even in
beta.
What I've really been hanging out for though is an emulator that runs
natively on Mac OS X. Your web page says that we should expect something
round about…. now! :-)
Can you let me know what's the status of the Carbon version? Is there a
reasonable beta that I could try out?

give up dataComet for MacSSH, which works, but does not have the
functionality of dataComet

I use dataComet as a 3270 client; it's the best I've found for a
Mac.
There's one feature I would love to have (if it's already available, I
haven't found it): the ability to copy/paste as a block rather than as
lines.

I had last checked with you about the OS X port of DataComet for Mac back
in October. You had said you planned on porting it but it was taking
longer than expected. Can you give me any kind of a rough update on
where you stand with this at the moment?
Incidentally, we met last week with our local Apple account manager as
well as the Apple New England rep and I gave them glowing reviews on
Datacomet.
Hope all is well! Take care and thanks for developing for the
